Running critical testing for a project
The utilities sector is fiercely competitive with companies struggling to retain customers within a highly regulated marketplace. One area where individual companies are working to demonstrate their difference is in their customer interface; by embracing emerging technology to help their customers manage their energy usage.
In this project a utility company was developing an online interface to enable their customers to choose how they wanted to interact with them. This needed to cover both web-based and mobile applications to meet today’s high user expectation. The project was run according to Agile methodology and Affluent was brought in to run the critical testing that was essential throughout the development phase of the project.

Affluent’s testing solution
We provided a team of testers split across several areas of the project to enhance collaborative working and to execute the actual testing. Our first step was to identify the test data requirements before designing the test cases. We also set up a demo so that the client could see how the testing would work alongside Agile sprints, for example using the data for sprint refinements and planning sessions.
Key information:
Tools used: Jira
Number of sprints completed: 9 (to date)
Team size: 4 testers
Number of test cases delivered: Almost 250 (to date)

Outcome
The project has been running successfully for 9 months (at the time of writing) and further project enhancements are being added to refine the web-solution even further.
