Mechanical design of Infotainment Panel structures
Sharp Devices have a reputation for providing high-quality electronic components to automotive tier 1 organisations. One area where they support the automotive industry is in the design and manufacture of the LCD screen for infotainment panels.
A new contract with Ford presented Sharp with an opportunity – and a challenge. In addition to delivering the LCD screen for the infotainment panels, the contract covered the infotainment panel, including the moulded housing, mechanical fixings and the entire assembly itself. Sharp decided to leverage the external support for mechanical design and structural analysis of the system.
Enlisting the help of Affluent engineers
They enlisted the help of Affluent Technology who carried out the structural analysis. Our engineers created the finite element model (FEM) using Hyperworks and analysed whether the infotainment structure could withstand the required loads under everyday use, applying industry standard FEA techniques in Nastran and Optistruct.
Our reputation in the CAE domain with automotive OEMs is what made Sharp UK decide to outsource the project to us.
Our linear model results were convincing and this paved the way for creating crash models for Sharp to the standards and requirements of Ford.
